My internet seems slow, is there anything I can do which may increase its speed?

  • Slow speeds can be caused by any one, of several, possibilities; please try the following:

    1. Please use our official speed test at http://testmyspeed.spin.net.au (and select your appropriate state).
    2. Ensure the internet connection is not being used. Internet services can appear to be going slowly if they are running at or near the capacity. To do this, turn off any devices which might be accessing the internet connection, including wireless devices. Until only one computer remains, ensure this computer is not running any software which might be using the internet connection. Background downloading programs such as peer-2-peer software should be disabled.
    3. Try and isolate the modem by removing all telephony devices off the line (including all telephones, fax machines, ADSL filters, back to base alarms and Foxtel digital). Once this is done, please use a short telephone cable (less than two metres) and connect this from the ADSL modem into the first telephone jack in the house. Please then run the official speed test again.
    4. Also try the unofficial ozspeedtest.com mirror again to monitor the speeds.
    5. Ensure you are connecting in G.DMT mode in the modem. Steps on how to do this differ from modem to modem.
    6. If feasible, try using another modem and monitor the connection.
  • Have you checked the speeds you are getting compared to our speed guide? Please double check that the speeds you are getting are correct for the service you signed up for. If so, and you find its too slow for your requirements, it may be a good idea to upgrade your speed through My Account which can be accessed through our website http://www.spin.net.au/

  • If you continue to have speed issues after trying these steps please contact support on 1300 303 375
