A line filter, or microfilter, is a small electronic component that fits between your phone line and a regular voice device, such as a phone, a fax, or any device with a regular modem such as Foxtel/Austar, an alarm system or EFTPOS terminal.
When ADSL is provided over voice lines, all devices in the house except the ADSL modem must be connected through filters. The filter protects the phone devices from high-frequency noise. They are low-pass filters. The filter is also there to protect the ADSL signal from being contaminated by high-frequency noise added by standard telephone equipment and answering machines etc.
If there are no other devices on your line, you do not require a line filter.
One filter will come standard with your installation (if you have purchased your modem from SpinTel). Additional filters are available from SpinTel from $20 each plus postage costs (prices are subject to change without notice).
IMPORTANT: Please be sure that you do NOT install an in-line microfilter to the telephone cable between the wall socket and the ADSL modem/router. To do so would disable connectivity to your ADSL service.
